Note: The original Turbocharged TSIO-520-R engines had 7-to-1 compression ration pistons while all normally-aspirated IO-520 engines had .5.-to-1 compression rations. The 'Western Skyways Aircraft Modifications' STC'd system gives you a TurboNormalized System on an IO-520-L engine with the 8.5 to-1 ratio compressions for more power and cruise speed. You can set the power in CRUISE at 32" manifold pressure and 2,500 RPM, running Lean-of-Peak with a fuel burn of aprox 14.5 to 15.2 gallons per hour and a true airspeed of aprox 180 knots at 12,000' MSL. The improved fuel burn results in a lower cost per mile and a greater true airspeed in CRUISE.
Also, this engine STC allows a person to convert this engine to an IO-550 engine with no additional paperwork. The STC provides for this.
